Board members

The Board is comprised of elected registrants and members of the 17�Թ� who are appointed by the Ministry of Health. Under the Health Professions Act and the Bylaws made under the Act, the College has committees made up of board members, medical professionals and 17�Թ� representatives who review issues and provide guidance and direction to the Board and the College staff, ensuring a well-balanced and equitable approach to regulation.

	Elected physician member District 4 \| Fraser B. Anne Priestman, MD, FRCPC President Dr. Anne Priestman obtained her medical degree from the University of British Columbia, where she also completed her residency. She has been practising for more than 20 years, and is a specialist in internal medicine, and endocrinology and metabolism. She currently works in New Westminster. Dr. Priestman was elected to the College Board in 2015.
	Government-appointed 17�Թ� member Vancouver Jane W.E. Dyson Vice-president Ms. Jane Dyson recently retired from a ten-year term as executive director of Disability Alliance BC. Throughout her career, she has established and managed programs designed to enable people with disabilities to live with dignity and independence in their communities. She is currently a member of the Minister of Social Development and Poverty Reduction's Advisory Forum on Poverty Reduction, the Registered Disability Savings Plan Action Group, and sits as a board member of the Community Legal Assistance Society and Plan Institute. Ms. Dyson holds a master's degree in political science, and in 2015 was awarded the Order of BC for her work. She was appointed to the College Board in 2018.
	Elected physician member District 3 \| Vancouver and surrounding area Chantal S. Leger, MD, FRCPC Treasurer Dr. Chantal Leger is a graduate of the University of Ottawa medical school and has been practising medicine for 15 years. She is a specialist in internal medicine and hematology and currently practises in Vancouver. She is also a clinical associate professor at the University of British Columbia and serves on a number of committees for Providence Health Care. Dr. Leger was elected to the College Board in 2019.
	Elected physician member District 1 \| Vancouver Island, South Jason T. Wale, MD, CCFP(EM), FCFP Dr. Jason Wale received his medical degree from the University of British Columbia in 1996 and completed residencies at both the University of Victoria in family practice and the University of Ottawa in emergency medicine. For more than 20 years he has worked in hospital and office settings in both rural and urban communities. He currently practises emergency medicine in Victoria. Dr. Wale was elected to the College Board in 2021.
	Elected physician member District 2 \| Vancouver Island, Central and Northern Justin J. Kingsley, MD, CCFP, FCFP Dr. Justin Kingsley obtained his medical degree from the University of Alberta in 2007 and completed his residency at the University of British Columbia. He currently practises family medicine in Nanaimo and is a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia. In addition, he has worked as a peer assessor for the College’s Physician Practice Enhancement Program for the past seven years. Dr. Kingsley was elected to the College Board in 2019.
	Elected physician member District 3 \| Vancouver and surrounding area Ronald R. Abrahams, MD, FCFP, M.S.C. Dr. Ron Abrahams has been a physician for more than 40 years and currently practises family medicine in Vancouver. He received his medical degree from Queen’s University before completing his residency at the University of British Columbia. He is currently a consultant physician at the Sheway Clinic. Dr. Abrahams was elected to the College Board in 2017.
	Elected physician member District 5 \| Thompson-Okanagan Shauna Tsuchiya, MD, CCFP Dr. Shauna Tsuchiya obtained her medical degree from the University of Toronto in 2009 and completed her residency at Queens University. She currently practises family medicine in Kamloops and is a clinical instructor at the University of British Columbia. She was also the site medical director at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops from 2018 to 2021. Dr. Tsuchiya was elected to the College Board in 2023.
	Elected physician member District 6 \| Kootenays Anneline Du Preez, MB, ChB, CCFP (EM) Dr. Anneline Du Preez received her medical degree from the University of Pretoria in South Africa in 1998. She currently practises in Kimberley and Cranbrook as a family and emergency room physician. She also works as an assessor for Practice Ready Assessment – British Columbia and for the College’s Physician Practice Enhancement Program. Dr. Du Preez was elected to the College Board in 2019.
	Board-appointed physician member District 7 \| Northern Karen L. Seland, MD, FRCPC Dr. Karen Seland obtained her medical degree in 2006 and completed her residency in 2011 at the University of Alberta. She completed a mini-fellowship in breast imaging at BC Women’s Hospital in 2016. She currently works as a general radiologist in Prince George, and has an interest in ensuring access to radiology services in rural and remote settings. She was appointed to the College Board in 2023.
	Board-appointed physician member Victoria/Tsawout Shannon McDonald, MD Dr. Shannon McDonald is Métis/Anishinabe with deep roots in the Red River Valley of Manitoba. She graduated from the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine in 1998, followed by postgraduate training in community medicine and psychiatry. She has broad experience at multiple levels of health-care service delivery and health administration. For over 20 years, she worked in First Nations and Aboriginal Health and is an experienced manager in the federal and provincial government contexts—most recently as the Executive Director of Aboriginal Health at the BC Ministry of Health. She joined First Nations Health Authority in September of 2015 as the Senior Medical Officer for Vancouver Island, and then became Deputy Chief Medical Officer. She served as acting Chief Medical Officer for two years until her recent retirement. Dr. McDonald was appointed by the Board in 2023 to sit as the first Indigenous physician member.
	Government-appointed 17�Թ� member Vancouver Michelle L. Casavant Ms. Michelle Casavant is a member of the Métis Nation of BC. With 15 years of legal practice as general counsel, her legal practice is focused in the areas of Aboriginal, administrative law and alternative dispute resolution. She is also an instructor for the School of Legal Studies at Capilano University. She holds Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Juris Doctor degrees. Ms. Casavant was appointed to the College Board in 2024.
	Government-appointed 17�Թ� member Prince George Margo L. Greenwood, PhD Dr. Margo Greenwood is an academic leader of the National Collaborating Centre for Aboriginal Health and an Indigenous scholar of Cree ancestry with years of experience focused on the health and well-being of Indigenous children, families and communities. She also holds a professor appointment in both the First Nations Studies and Education programs at the University of Northern British Columbia. Dr. Greenwood was appointed to the College Board in 2021.
	Government-appointed 17�Թ� member Kamloops Haike A. Muller Ms. Haike Muller is Nlaka’pamux and currently the director, strategic policy at the First Nations Health Authority, where she has worked since 2009. She has previous experience as an instructor of Indigenous studies and as a diversity advisor. She holds a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Victoria and a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of British Columbia. Ms. Muller was appointed to the College Board in 2022.
	Government-appointed 17�Թ� member Vancouver Kam K. Raman Ms. Kam Raman is currently the vice president, commercial financial services of Royal Bank of Canada where she has worked since 2020. She has over 25 years experience in retail banking, insurance, sales leadership and program development, enterprise member experience strategy, credit union operations and banking. She holds a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Kwantlen Polytechnic University and an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Ms. Raman was appointed to the College Board in 2024.
	Government-appointed 17�Թ� member Vancouver Lionel R. Yip Mr. Lionel Yip is a graduate of the University of British Columbia with Bachelor of Arts and Bachelor of Laws degrees. He also graduated from the University of Hong Kong with a Master of Laws. He has worked as Crown Counsel in Surrey and New Westminster since 1990. He served as a director of the Roundhouse Community Arts & Recreation Society in Vancouver from 2003 to 2011, was President of the New Westminster Bar Association from 2011 to 2012, and served on the Equality and Diversity Committee of the Canadian Bar Association, BC Branch, from 2011 to 2015. Mr. Yip was appointed to the College Board in 2022.
