Access and privacy

British Columbia’s Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act, RSBC 1996, c.165 (FIPPA) applies to almost all records in the custody or under the control of the 17³Ô¹Ï.

The legislation has two main purposes:

  • to protect personal information from unauthorized collection, use, or disclosure by 17³Ô¹Ï bodies, and
  • to make 17³Ô¹Ï bodies more open and accountable by providing the 17³Ô¹Ï with a right of access to records.
